DVA owes its longstanding success to it's volunteers, and depends on volunteers to run. Volunteering is rewarding and challenging, a great way to connect with people in the community and get performance experience .
'DVA is a great community to be part of. The people are great, the workshops are inspiring: I always leave Monday nights happy.' – Caitlin Dullard, volunteer.
‘I like volunteering with DVA because of the fun, friendship and seeing everyone grow in skills and confidence. I also feel that my skills have grown across my time as part of the group.’ – Catriona FitzGerald, volunteer.
'Being a volunteer Performance Facilitator and member of the Committee of Management at DVA Theatre Company was a highly rewarding experience which added much value to my life. As a Performance Facilitator I was given the opportunity to be involved in the development of meaningful and accessible experiences of theatre. In performance development I enjoyed working with a range of professional artists including; musicians dancers, circus artists and designers. At DVA I developed skills in facilitation and performance, took on leadership and management roles, was involved in strategic planning and the writing of funding submissions and assisted with marketing and fundraising. Through my involvement at DVA Theatre Company I have made lifelong friends and enjoyed experiences that have become treasured memories.' - Nicla Byrnes, former volunteer, (Current Artistic Director)
DVA welcomes volunteers in 3 capacities:
1: Volunteer Performance Facilitators: ongoing support of weeklysessions throughout school terms, and involvement in performances. This role is a creative role, which involves training together withparticipants, while supporting participants in the process of theatre making. New performance Facilitators have a one month trial period.
2: Casual support for performances, events and the offering of specific skills: DVA needs volunteer support for performances, both in preparation (sewing, constructing etc) as well as stage management and extra support during a performance. Also, people with specific skills who would like to share them with the group during regular sessions are welcome to discuss this with us.
3: Committee: DVA's volunteer committee meets once a school term, and accepts nominations for new committee members once a year at it's AGM.
